Privacy policy

What we collect

If you create an account, we store your email address and account details. Signing in with Google shares basic profile information with us, such as your name, email address, profile picture, and Google account identifier. We do not request access to your Gmail, contacts, or Drive. Email and password accounts are managed through our authentication provider, Supabase.

We also store the notes, bookmarks, favourites, reading history, and saved snippets you choose to keep. Your personal notes are private to your account. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address. If you contact us, we receive the information you send.

For returning readers, account, saved reading, and subscription records may have been transferred from the previous version of the site.

How we use it

We use this information to sign you in, keep your saved content together, send requested account emails, deliver newsletters you subscribe to, answer questions, and maintain and protect the service. Google profile information is used to identify and manage your account.

Signing up for an account does not automatically subscribe you to the newsletter. You can unsubscribe using the link in a newsletter or by contacting us.

Cookies and analytics

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and browser storage to remember preferences. We use Plausible for aggregate website analytics, such as page visits, referral sources, device types, and approximate locations. Plausible does not use tracking cookies. You can read more in its data policy.

Our hosting and service providers may also process technical information, such as IP addresses and request logs, to operate the site and prevent abuse.

Supporter contributions

If you choose public recognition when supporting the site, we publish the name and optional profile link you provide in our Hall of Fame after payment is confirmed. If you choose an anonymous contribution, we do not publish your name or link. We privately store your contribution amount, payment status, dates, checkout email, and Stripe payment, customer, and invoice references. Stripe processes your payment details; we do not store card numbers. We use these records to acknowledge your support, provide payment support, and keep accounting records. Contributing does not subscribe you to our newsletter. Contact us if you would like your public name or link changed or removed.

Who processes your information

We use service providers including Supabase for accounts and data storage, AutoSend for email delivery and newsletter contacts, Vercel for hosting, Plausible for analytics, and Stripe for supporter payments and invoices. They process information needed to provide those services, potentially in countries other than your own. We do not sell your personal information. We may also disclose information when legally required or necessary to protect people and the service.

Your choices and your data

We retain information for as long as needed to provide the service and meet legal or security obligations. You can request access, corrections, or deletion of your account and personal information by emailing louis@nicheless.com. We may need to verify that the request is yours. Some information may remain in backups for a limited period or be retained when legally required. We may keep a minimal unsubscribe record to avoid emailing you again.

You can remove our Google connection in your Google Account settings; this does not itself delete your Read Something Great account. We take reasonable steps to protect your information, but no online service can guarantee complete security.

External sites and updates

Articles we link to are hosted by other publishers, whose own privacy policies apply when you visit them. We may update this policy as the service changes, and will update the date above and give notice of significant changes where appropriate.
